FRANCISCAN FRIARS • ST. LOUIS-CHICAGO PROVINCE

The Franciscan Volunteer Program has been established by the Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart to invite women and men to share in the life and ministry of the friars of the province.

Volunteers are invited to share in the Province's mission which is to permeate our society with Gospel values. Franciscans and their volunteers are to be instuments of change and heralds of peace in a broken world serving all people, especially the poor and marginalized, through reconciliation and healing.

    Some of the Ministry Sites

    GOALS

    The Franciscan Volunteer Program hopes to provide its volunteers with experiences that touch their lives in six significant areas:
    • SPIRITUAL LIFE: fostering and encouraging a personal spiritual life;
    • FRANCISCAN LIFE: being educated in the life of St. Francis and the Franciscan charism of the Province of the Sacred Heart;
    • GOSPEL SERVICE: being invited to join with the friar community in a common ministry, especially sensitive to working with the poor and the marginalized:
    • COMMUNITY: being incorporated into the prayer and fraternal life of a local friar community;
    • SIMPLICITY: receiving a minimum compensation to help in the support of the local community as well as provide a monthly stipend for the volunteer's needs;
    • EVANGELIZATION: bringing the "Good News" to those served, and being evangelized by those served.
