Donald Finnegan was born on July 15, 1919, in Washburn, WI,
the son of Arlie Leaguee and Walter Edward Finnegan. One of 10 children, he has a twin sister,
Dorothy Joan Smolen, 2 brothers, Robert Emmett and George (deceased), and
5 other sisters, Sr. Mary Donald, Patricia Bateman, Jean Audrey Camden, Elaine
Rodgers, Mary Jane Clark and Arlie Mae Plichta.
He was invested on May 17, 1952, and made solemn profession on July 5, 1959.
He served as sacristan for many years at St. Peters-in-the-Loop in Chicago,
and for the past several years he was bookbinder at Quincy
University - working til the day he came to Sherman! You can be sure he
will continue playing his harmonica, yodeling, and singing - as well as serving as reader
at Mass.
With Brother
Jim's retirement, the last bookbindery of the Sacred Heart Province will be
closed ... sharing the fates of the sandalshops, tailorshops and various other
Brothers' trades which the German Friars brought with them when they founded
this province in the late 1800's.
