Earl Benz, O.F.M.

Brother Earl Benz
Order of Friars Minor

Brother Earl was born in Quincy, Illinois, on November 14, 1929, the youngest of one sister, Hilda, and one brother, Albert (AB).

He entered the Franciscan Order on May 17, 1955 after serving in the military from March 4, 1951 to March 4, 1953. He was invested at St. Paschal Brothers' School in Westmont, Illinois, along with three other candidates, George Lux, Alvin Pfeifer (the brother of Brother Roch), and Brother Theodore Hahn. The building was under construction with all of the work being done by the brothers themselves.

Br. Earl came to Sherman after serving as administrator of St. Francis Village in Crowley, Texas. He finds assisting the senior friars, in any capacity, most gratifying and feels that he is the recipient of the heartfelt appreciation from those he has the privilege of serving.

He enjoys bowling, tossing horse shoes, driving around the countryside, and wood turning. He spent many years crafting all of the woodwork used in the construction of St. Paschal's Friary.
